1966 Rugby at Matthias courtesy of Alan Whittle. At this time the college had no a bar so the club had their 'apres rugby' at the Cross Keys. Needless to say they got given a room to themselves! (Note the old blue and yellow shirts, these were standard college issue.) Back, Pete Silcock, Nigel Rushworth, ??, Lyn Owen, George Smith, Mike Townsend, Bernie Francis, Ian Perrot. Front, Jeff John, Alan Whittle, Andy Spencer, Bob Avery, ??, Dai Davies, Howard Westlake, Dick Peppin.
Alan remembers that St Matthais also ran a basketball team that was led by, surprise surprise, Geoff Dawes who was able to score without leaving the ground. They also had a couple of mormons from America who played. I have no record of their results but if anyone out there knows anything about these matches please get in touch.
