Andrea, (Andy) Hockfield was, in 1971, one of a group of American students when who came over to study at St. Matthias, in what was for them, their third year. They recently had a get-together and somebody mentioned this site. Since then Andrea has been in touch and has sent these great pictures of those days. On returning to America she graduated from the University of Illinois in 1972, and then taught for 4 years, got married, left teaching had two daughters then did a Master's and returned to teaching as a reading specialist. She retired from teaching recently, and now is about to begin a new vocation as a docent at the Art Institute of Chicago, taking school groups on tours. Enjoy.

A handsome fellah! Andrea writes, "While studying and traveling abroad, I wrote letters that I sent home to my mother. She typed them all and placed them in a scrapbook. The following is a direct quotation from one of my letters:" "Feb. 8, 1971 I just spent the most delightful afternoon and evening with a (fellow student) Adrian. He asked me if I wanted to go visit his friends. He said they are truly the most beautiful people he knows. They live in a little village on the other side of the park. Their house is very quaint and they have a little sign on the gate that says, 'The Little House.' Their names are Jim and Sue (Stevenson) and they have a gorgeous baby named Jamie. Adrian brought his guitar and Jim had an assortment of different kinds of instruments: flutes, horns, and mandolin. The three of them write their own music, and while they played and sang, Jamie kept time on a drum and xylophone (glockenspiel). We had tea and later went out to a pub. Jim knew all of the birds' names and recognized their bird calls." "We also went back to Jim and Sue's for pancakes on Pancake Day!"

Andy became good friends with Angela, who is mentioned here, and would like to get back in touch. If anyone knows anything that would help please let me know.
